ACTIVITIES OF ASSOCIATION PERPETUA ON 2017-2018

The Department of Bioscience, SNGIST Arts and Science College, hosted an International Conference on “Frontiers in Bioscience”, ICFB 2017 on November 15 & 16, 2017. The conference has prime objective to provide an opportunity for a close interaction of scientists with varied interests in diverse fields of the research. It will provide an open forum for the academicians, scientists, technologists and students to exchange their ideas, to raise the most challenging issues in current scenario and to foster the interactive research in the thematic areas to achieve sustainability, in the diverse facets of biological science. Participants will be exposed to new discoveries, techniques, and ideas and will get an opportunity to network with the speakers, opening vistas of research collaborations and career opportunities.

Training Programme and Industrial visit

Twenty three students from M.Sc. Bioscience and two faculties, Anjana J.C and LijiCebilhad attended the training programme conducted by The Department Of Animal Husbandry, Dairying And Fisheries on HACCP (Hazard Analysis And Critical Control Point) on 14 – 16 January, 2016 and were awarded the certificate on ‘HACCP CONCEPTS’ issued by Govt. of India.  About 25 students and 3 faculties Ms. BilzamolSasi, Dr. Reshma Mary Joseph and Ms. Venus V went to CEPC and Milma Dairy Plant, Kollam on March 13, 2018.

ACTIVITIES OF ASSOCIATION PERPETUA ON 2016-2017

 The World AIDS Day is held on the 1st December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died.. The Theme for the World AIDS Day is selected after consulting WHO, UNAIDS and many international and nation agencies, which are involved in HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment.On this occasion,

The Department of Bioscience had organised a one day State level seminar on COSMECEUTICALS on February 28, 2017. This seminar aimed at offering a platform for students to know the current trends in pharmaceutical sector, especially focussing on research in medicinal and cosmeceutic products, also to understand the trends in pharmaceutical industry.On focussing the need of the students, we had conducted 3 sessions with the talk of eminent scientist. The seminar was inaugurated by Chairman of SNGIST GROUP OF INSTITUTIONS Shri Kusuman. The Program was presided by Manager Shri Pradeep Kumar, Estate Manager Shri Shaiju, Principal Dr. M.G Ramesh Babu. The Resource persons were Dr Madhu P.C, Associate Professor, MET’S School of Engineering; Dr Merina Benny Antony, Managing Director, Arjuna Natural Extracts Pvt. Ltd. And Dr.Vidya K.V, Vedangi Medical Cosmetology Centre, Manjeri. The seminar was well attended by more than 150 students from various colleges ia and around Kochi. Apart from the seminar our department had also organised a one day exhibition ‘SPECTACLE’ on the field of bioscience for school students on February 23, 2017.

The students of Department of Bioscience, conducted various programmes for creating awareness on AIDS among the students in the college. The III semester students exhibited various posters and presented a tableau depicting the various mode of transmission of HIV virus, its prevention and its effect on society. AswathyS.Nair had presented a talk on the same topic. I semester MSc. Students had presented a flash mob to create awareness on AIDS. They had also put up with a stall which highlighted the diverse use of medicinal plants rich in antioxidants that could eliminate various diseases in human.

ACTIVITIES OF ASSOCIATION PERPETUA ON 2015-2016

The DepartmentAssociation “PERPETUA was inauguratedon October 14, 2015 by Professor Saritha G Bhat, Department of Biotechnology, CUSAT. A talk on Metagenomics was also conducted for the students.

Ms Julie Edgar, Associate Dean, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, Northumbria University visited our department on November 3, 2015. She initiated Faculty discussion and made a presentation to the students.

The Bioscience Association of SNGIST Arts and Science College, PERPETUA hosted a seminar on December 29, 2015 by Dr. Deepthy Menon, Professor, Amrita Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular medicine on “Nanotechnology in Healthcare” as a part of Dr. Abdul Kalam Lecture series.

The students of Bioscience conducted poster presentations and mime on World Aids Day, December 1, 2015
